How do you convince people that Microsoft technology can be a powerful yet highly creative tool?
Research showed that when choosing a computer, Japanese consumers preferred brands with an innovative or stylish image, regardless of functionality or ease of use.
We demonstrated that Microsoft technology could create a beautiful, innovative, art installation.
Using Microsoft products, we created a unique art installation of ‘living flowers’. Our team of artists, botanists, and data scientists gathered a full year of data on the lifespan of flowers in Japan’s Kunisaki Peninsula. We paired the data with Microsoft technology to digitally create 2.3 billion individual flowers.
At the Kunisaki Art Festival, we projected the flowers on enormous screens which reacted to people in real-time. As visitors approached our digital flowers bloomed in cascades of petals and movement.
This installation required constant processing of millions of pieces of data—all powered by Microsoft devices and technology.
- 60,000 festival visitors in 2 months
- 300,000+ people visited in Tokyo
- Massive media coverage in TV, print, and online publications
- Now a permanent exhibit at teamLab Gallery, Matama Beach, on the Kunisaki Peninsula
